Troubleshooting

If you’ve never seen the EndNote tools loaded in Word, please try the following steps:

Windows

  1. Click on File in your word document.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Select Add-ins.
  4. From the Manage drop-down box, select Disabled items.
  5. If the EndNote plugin is disabled, click on Enable.
  6. Restart Word.

macOS

  1. Click on Tools in your word document.
  2. Select Templates and Add-ins....
  3. Under the Global Templates and Add-ins you should see listed the below Endnote files


     
  4. Make sure both of these files are checked and click OK.
  5. Restart Word.

The default security settings on macOS may prevent you from opening EndNote downloads that were not obtained from the App Store.

To allow apps from sources outside the Apple Store, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Apple menu

2. Select System Preferences

3. Choose Security & Privacy

4. Select General tab

5. Under the 'Allow apps downloaded from:' select the option for 'App Store and identified developers'

Once you have completed these steps, your Mac should allow you to open the EndNote.

When the following message appears "Word wasn't able to load an add-in"  in MS Word, follow the instructions by Clicking  HERE.

When using the EndNote CWYW tab on Word, you may get a "Class not registered" error. To fix it, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click "Ok "on the error message 
  2. Open MS Word.
  3. Go to the EndNote tab, and choose "Preferences"
  4. Click on the "Applications" tab
  5.  Select "EndNote online".
  6. Click OK.

Once you have completed the above steps, you should no longer receive an error message. For more help contact us
