Getting Started

When looking for company and industry information, consider the following:

  • Is the company public (traded on a stock exchange) or private (non-listed)?
  • Is the company/industry Australian or international?
  • What types of information are you looking for? E.g. annual reports, financial data, industry profiles, market research.
  1. Start with the company's website - it can provide good background information.  Look for links to areas such as annual reports, shareholder information, investor's sections, latest announcements, latest media releases, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, about us etc.
  2. Search for newspaper, journal and trade publication articles about the company using our databases

Industry Information

1. Search library databases, such as IBISWorld, EBSCO and ProQuest.

2. Search for newspaper, journal and trade publication articles about the company.

3. Look for industry associations for the industry as they usually have useful reports, data and analysis

4. Try looking web sources such as government related, consultancy firms etc. 

Please note: for more specialised industries, it can be difficult to find information.

Consultancy firms conduct and publish industry research. You will locate market research reports at these company websites. You can access global industry information by switching between the national sites for each firm:

Governments and business use industry classification systems that sort and identify industries by numerical code.

You can search many databases (such as EBSCO, ProQuest etc) via the industry codes.
