About the Library workshop program

Next workshops to run August 5th - 15th 2024.

These 30-minute Library workshops are a great opportunity for students to boost their research and referencing skills. The sessions cover vital research skills, navigating the Library’s electronic resources, and the basics of referencing.

Sessions run over two weeks at the beginning of term via Webex.

How to research like a pro

Using the Library's research skills guide as a starting point, the presenter will take you through the research process from start to finish, so you can feel confident when tackling the research component of your assignments.

The session will cover:

  • How to locate the research skills guide
  • Understanding your research topic
  • Using Library Search to find relevant resources
  • How to organise your resources
Introduction to electronic resources

This session will introduce the Library's electronic resources, including databases, ebooks and streaming video. The presenter will demonstrate how to search a database to find information most relevant to you and your study area.

The session will cover:

  • How to locate electronic resources through the Library
  • What academic databases are and the information they contain
  • How to access ebooks and streaming videos
  • How to effectively search databases
Referencing 101

Using the Referencing guides as a basis, the presenter will take you through the process of citing and referencing for your assignments.

The session will cover:

  • What referencing is and why it is important
  • How to locate the referencing guides and tools
  • How to insert citations into your assignment
  • Correct referencing formats for books, journals and websites
