Clinicalkey Student Nursing: Troubleshooting and FAQs

Common login issues

Check the URL: Make sure the browser address bar shows "holmesglen" in the URL.

Registration: Ensure you have registered for ClinicalKey Student. It requires a separate login from your Holmesglen accounts.

Username: Confirm your username is your Holmesglen email and check for any typos.

Password: If you have saved your password, use the eye icon to view it before logging in to ensure it's the most recent one.

If you are still having trouble logging into ClinicalKey Student, please go through the tips below:

1. Access ClinicalKey using the link provided

2. Reset password only from the ClinicalKey

3. Clear the cache in your Browser.

4. Error message: “There was an error loading this content” or “An internal server error occurred”.

5. The Shared link in Brightspace is not taking to the intended book, chapter, or content.

6. Book is not on my Bookshelf or cannot add a book to Bookshelf

1. Access ClinicalKey using the link provided

Do NOT search online e.g., Google for ClinicalKey as these links will not take you to the Holmesglen subscription of ClinicalKey.

Always use the link provided by the Holmesglen Libguides page.

Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge are the recommended browsers for ClinicalKey.

  • If you are directed to the Holmesglen login page, sign in using your Holmesglen email and password to verify your student status.

  • If not, you will be taken directly to the ClinicalKey, with a green banner welcome message from Holmesglen Chadstone.

  • If you are new student, click Register here link or enter your registered email and password to login.

  • Note: ClinicalKey account are not same as your Brightspace account, and you must register separately. Do not use personal email to register instead of your Holmesglen email.

 

2. Reset password only from the ClinicalKey

If you've forgotten your ClinicalKey Student password, please confirm that you're accessing ClinicalKey Student via the link provided.

Attempt to log in again. If the issue continues, you can reset your password by following these steps:

  • First, click on the “Forgot password?” link below the password field.
  • Next, enter your registered Holmesglen email address.
  • Check your email for a message from ClinicalKey containing a reset link.

Note: The reset link expires 30 minutes after it is requested.

  • If you haven't received the reset email or if the link has expired, please repeat the process by clicking “Forgot password” again.

When setting your new password, ensure it meets the following criteria:

  • At least 8 characters in length
  • Contains one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, and one number.
  • Includes the symbol @ (e.g., Home@123).

 

3. Clear the cache in your Browser.

If you continue to see an error message after resetting your password on ClinicalKey, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then log in again.

To clear the cache in Google Chrome:

  • Click on the three small dots (settings) icon in the top right corner of Chrome and select “Delete browsing data …
  • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select “All time”.
  • Select “Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files”.
  • Then, click “Delete data”.

To clear the cache in Microsoft Edge:

  • Click on the three small dots (settings) icon in the top right corner of Edge.
  • From Settings bar on the left, select “Privacy, search and services”.

  • Find the heading “Delete browsing data” and click “Choose what to clear”.
  • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select “All time”.
  • Select “Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files”.
  • Then, click “Clear now”.

 

4. Error message: “There was an error loading this content” or “An internal server error occurred”.

  • First, close all the open ClinicalKey tabs from your browser.
  • Remove any old bookmarks or saved links.
  • Login to ClinicalKey Student using the link provided.
  • If the issue continues, clear your browser's cache and cookies, and try logging in again.

 

5. The Shared link in Brightspace is not taking to the intended book, chapter, or content.

The link may be outdated, or you may need to log in to access the linked content.

  • First, login to Login to ClinicalKey Student using the link provided.
  • Try the link again.
  • If the issue continues, search for the book, chapter, content using the search bar and select the content type to refine your results.

 

6. Book is not on my Bookshelf or cannot add a book to Bookshelf

Page numbers are available in the standard view of ClinicalKey Student. To access them,

you'll need to add the book to your bookshelf and view it in Bookshelf mode or through the app.

Bookshelf also offers many features, including the ability to make notes and highlights, bookmark, reader preferences, create flashcards, and copy material for use in presentations.

To view a book on the Bookshelf, you must first add it.

  • Search for the book you're interested in, then open it. Click the “Add to Bookshelf” button located under the book title.
  • Once added, the button will change to “View in Bookshelf”, allowing you to access the book.
  • The ClinicalKey Student Bookshelf app is available for both iOS and Android. When you're signed in, all books added to your Bookshelf are accessible through the app as well. After 30 days, the same title can be downloaded again.

If the Bookshelf is not launching or is missing, try the following:

  • First, close all the Clinical Key Bookshelf from your browser.
  • Remove any old bookmarks or saved links.
  • Login to ClinicalKey Student using the link provided.
  • If the issue continues, clear your browser's cache and cookies, and try logging in again.

 

7. Holmesglen Library Support

Please remember that due to licencing restrictions, only Nursing students and staff are eligible to access ClinicalKey.
