What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English language proficiency

The test consists of four modules: reading, writing, speaking and listening

It can be taken on paper or online and there are two versions of the test.

  • Academic, usually for people who are applying for higher education or professional registration
  • General Training, usually for immigration application and work

English Language proficiency is scored on a nine-band scale from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

The IELTS band score required varies between courses. You can check requirements by checking the International students information for for each individual course.
